The Centre’s rapidly growing research program on global governance investigates a variety of innovative approaches to managing global issues:
S.T. Lee Project on Global Governance
The project addresses two key sets of questions. First, how can states, the private sector and civil society better organise to address the deficiencies in global governance? In a world of emerging multipolarity and deepening globalisation, how can the international community take effective collective action? Second, what is Asia’s role in dealing with these issues? How can, and should, Asia translate its emerging economic clout into positive political influence that will strengthen global governance? The aim of the project is to develop a volume of critical research and innovative proposals that would identify the challenges of global governance, make recommendations for a new approach, and feed into the decision-making of policymakers, heads of governments and international institutions.
New Modes of Governance in Asia
CAG is collaborating with the Asia Research Centre (ARC) at Murdoch University to explore alternative approaches to governance throughout the Asian region. Headed by CAG Director Ann Florini and ARC Director Garry Rodan, the New Modes of Governance Project systematically examines the political contesation taking place in Asia over what collective goods should be provided, who should be involved and by what processes, rendering explicit the implications for political participation and accountability across the region.
