Mr Basskaran Nair is the Senior Vice President, Group Corporate Marketing and Communications, at CapitaLand Limited and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. He was previously an Equity Partner and CEO of an international communications firm.
Basskaran is a board member of Certis CISCO Security, a Temasek-linked company, since July 2005. In January 2011, he is also a Board Member of the Media Development Authority (MDA). Concurrently, Basskaran is Chairman of MDA’s Publication Consultative Panel, a feedback panel on print censorship issues; and Honorary Public Relations Advisor for the Real Estate Developers’ Association of Singapore (REDAS). Previously, he was a member of the Singapore Government's Feedback Supervisory Committee; President of the East-West Centre Alumni (Singapore), a USA think-tank organization; and Chairman, Accreditation Board for the Institute of Public Relations of Singapore.
In November 2010, Basskaran was conferred the Public Service Medal 2010 (PBM) by the President of the Republic of Singapore, for distinguished service to the nation. In 1997, the Institute of Public Relations of Singapore (IPRS) nominated him Fellow of IPRS and subsequently, awarded him “PR Professional of the Year 2004”. In 2008, he was awarded by IPRS the “Lifetime Achievement Award”.
He has authored books and the latest is “From Main Street to Cyber Street – Changes in the Practice of Communication” focusing on the role of New Media in public communications. Besides a post graduate degree, he has attended executive management courses including those organized by INSEAD. |
