Henri Ghesquiere specialises in comparative development and applied macroeconomic policy. He served on the staff of the International Monetary Fund during 1978-2005, the last two years as Director of the IMF-Singapore Regional Training Institute. At the IMF he was closely involved as an economist, mission head, and senior resident representative with macro-economic lending programs and growth-oriented stabilisation policies in 26 countries, including Brazil, Venezuela, Algeria, Egypt, Ukraine, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Earlier he taught economics in the Philippines and wrote a book on development challenges in South East Asia.
In 2006 Henri Ghesquiere authored Singapore’s Success: Engineering Economic Growth, a multidisciplinary analysis of the city-state’s remarkably rapid development and inquiry into its relevance for other countries. He currently teaches a course and consults on this subject. |
