"Knowledge and skills to do their job effectively"
The non-profit sector is becoming larger and more complex all over the world. Southeast Asia in general, and Singapore in particular, are not immune to these global trends. Whether the organisations provide services to the less fortunate, offer arts and sports programmes, produce educational innovations for young people, or serve the elderly, managers of non-profit organisations (NPOs) require the knowledge and skills to do their jobs effectively. These skills include raising funds and managing resources, supervising staff and volunteers, engaging their organisations’ stakeholders, and marketing the services offered by their organisations. Like their counterparts in government and the corporate world, successful 21st century NPO managers, equipped with the appropriate skills, can be strategic in their thinking and entrepreneurial in their actions. The non-profit sector cannot depend on "good deeds" alone for support and recognition. To succeed in their mission, NPOs must acquire professional skills to be effective in their execution, efficient in the use of human and financial resources, entrepreneurial in finding creative solutions and excel in maintaining critical relations with all stakeholders.
The Non-Profit Management for the 21st Century Programme (NPM21 Programme), developed in collaboration between Tote Board and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, is designed for senior management staff of non-profit organisations within and outside of Singapore. The programme will expose participants to practical insights about management and leadership in the non-profit organisational setting.
