Where are you from?
I am half Malaysian half British, and was fortunate enough to grow up in Southeast Asia, predominantly in Indonesia but also the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia.
What sparked your interest in public policy?
Prior to joining LKYSPP, I worked as a research consultant for three years in Indonesia and over two years at the Asia Programme at Chatham House in London. In both private and public sector projects, I found the role of related policies and policy-makers to be crucial in determining policy outcomes. I have always had a strong interest in social and economic development and decided to combine this with a PhD in Public Policy.
Why did you choose to pursue a PhD at LKYSPP?
The school has a great reputation and offers both a global and Asian perspective that is hard to find in the UK or USA. It is also ideally placed for me in terms of my research interests. The weather in Singapore is also a lot better than London.
What do you enjoy the most about your studies or research work at LKYSPP?
The diversity of both the student body and faculty make for a stimulating and rewarding experience – both socially and intellectually.
What are your career goals?
My goal is to work in a field that strengthens private and public commitments to sustainable socio-economic growth and development. |
