In November 1992, the Institute of Policy Studies and the Singapore Heritage Society organized a closed-door session, followed by an open forum, to discuss issues relating to Singapore's value systems. The topics raised were: the problem of `tradition' in contemporary Singapore; the acquisition and communication of value systems; and the search for a visual identity. The aim of the Heritage and Contemporary Values forum was to deepen the understanding of the issues involved and to make a significant contribution to the ongoing debate over values. This book is a collection of essays by four of the panellists who participated in the session, accompanied by the questions and answers which were deliberated at the forum.
