Institute of Water Policy Research Workshop:
‘Water Governance: An Evaluation of Alternative Architectures’
24-25 October 2011
Kent Ridge Guild House, National University of Singapore

This workshop is part of an ongoing research project being undertaken by a core research team consisting of Dr. Asanga Gunawansa and Ms. Lovleen Bhullar. The goal of the workshop is to provide a forum for eminent international and local scholars to reach consensus on feasible water governance and infrastructure development models that can be implemented in different countries/regions/cities to create win-win situations for all stakeholders. South East Asian Ministers Meet on Water Security

Twelve ministerial representatives attended the Southeast Asia (SEA) Water Ministers Forum held on 4 July 2011 during the Singapore International Water Week. The Forum was organized by the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources and PUB Singapore. Chaired by Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore’s Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, and moderated by Ambassador Ong Keng Yong from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministers discussed issues ranging from water scarcity and climate change to the need for improved service delivery and infrastructure. Participating countries included Angola, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Maldives, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka and Tuvalu. Professor Seetharam KE, Director of the Institute of Water Policy at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, presented the elements of good practices on water governance based on a joint research publication with Asian Development Bank, Every Drop Counts: Good Practices in Eight Asian Cities. IWP Speaker Series: Talk by Professor Peter Rogers, Mr Okiura Fumihiko, Dr Chiplunkar, and Dr Harshadeep

On April 11, 2011, IWP continued its Speaker Series, this time featuring a medley of international development experts who discussed their experiences with water projects and policy in Asia. Distinguished Harvard Professor Peter Rogers spoke about his research work in water policy, and was joined by experts from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japanese International Development Agency (JICA). IWP IAP Chairman to Speak on Singapore’s Water Management in February 2011
PUB Chairman, Mr. Tan Gee Paw, who is also the Chairman of the Institute of Water Policy’s International Advisory Panel (IAP), will give a talk about Singapore’s success story in water management on 28 February 2011, at the URA Function Hall, URA Centre, from 4:30pm-6:00pm. The talk will be organized by the Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC), a think-tank on high-density, urban solutions.



 
IWP Annual Report 2009 - 2010
The Institute of Water Policy has steadily progressed in the second year. This report captures the Institute’s research and educational accomplishments in line with its maiden Medium Term Research Programme and the impact of the various knowledge sharing events of the year including the inaugural Global Water Policy Dialogue.
 
IWP Newsletter: The Water Leader
The Water Leader is the Institute of Water Policy (IWP)’s bi-annual newsletter that aims to showcase the latest water challenges and solutions. The second issue contains highlights of the Singapore International Water Week 2010, including a spotlight on the first ever BBC World Debate held on pressing water issues. In addition to an interview with Perry Rivera, the group director of Manila Water, read more about IWP’s research that spans various policy areas, from the evaluation of regional trends in water infrastructure financing and development to the analysis of public participation in resolving urban water woes. Furthermore, the growing consensus on the importance of water governance saw the launch of the Asian Water Governance Index that consolidates and ranks policy lessons on water laws and administration for 20 Asia-Pacific countries.
 


Asia-Pacific Water KnowledgeHubs Learning Week
Three representatives from IWP attended the Asia-Pacific Water KnowledgeHubs Learning Week in Manila. In addition to networking with the other KnowledgeHubs, they also participated in lectures and discussion sessions on the essentials of running knowledge networks. More details..
