J Y Pillay has held the position of Chairman, Singapore Exchange Limited, since November 1999. He is a member of various councils and advisory panels including the Council of Presidential Advisers of the Republic of Singapore and the Investment Committee of the United Nations Pension Fund since 1997. Joe served in the Administrative service of the Government of Singapore and was Permanent Secretary of various key ministries, including finance, defence and national development.
He was appointed Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation, and held the chairmanship of several government companies including the Development Bank of Singapore and Temasek Holdings. But he is perhaps best known as the man who led Singapore Airlines from a small startup with just 12 aircrafts to a global industry leader.
